Real work today at last!
32 Packets of 100mm Rocksil RS60 delivered.
The plywood also arrived. Here is a crude shot trying to show the difference between marine ply and normal ply. On the left is the 25mm marine ply and the rest is 18mm structural spruce ply.
Here is a minor logistcal conundrum. You only have two hands. How do you support 2.4m planks flush against the ceiling joists so that you can accurately line them up, drill pilot holes, countersink those holes and then screw the whole plank in position?
This is probably an old trick but I got a kick out of devising it!
Make a support at each end using a G cramp.
Then slide the plank into place, position it and slam the cramps tight against it to lock it in position.
Using this method, I got a fair way doing the ceiling and also did a test fill using RW3.
Close up on the filled area. It doesn't show in the photo but I had to cut the RW3 into lots of small slices, put them in 90 degrees out and then twist into position. The whole ceiling will have to be done this way :-(
The other main job started today was laying the plywood floor. I am using 18mm structural spruce ply for this in 8' x4' sheets.
A quick look at the old floor before is disappears.
The start of laying. When this photo was taken (a forced break because the driver battery was going), only the far sheet was screwed in. Each sheet is being screwed down with a 30cm screw grid so there are 45 screws in each 8' x 4' sheet.
A while later and the last major block goes in. I've still got the edges to go but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
That completes the first major day of construction work - all in all, pretty satisfactory.
